Creating Sarah | Die skep van Saartjie

Ondersteun deur NATi en Het Jan Marais Nationale Fonds | Supported by NATi and Het Jan Marais Nationale Fonds
In this homage to Saartjie Baartman, Diana Ferrus explores her famous poem about the historic icon, and the influence of the poem in securing the return of Sarah’s remains to South Africa. The poem has been absorbed into the French legal canon regarding colonial appropriation. Some of South Africa’s most celebrated composers and performers each bring an original interpretation of Saartjie’s story to the stage in this once-off debut performance. The performances combine Western instruments and a cross-section of traditional and indigenous instruments that celebrate Sarah’s legacy on behalf of all South Africans.

Nataniël spreads his wings with a show equally suited to an ancient town square, a massive stadium or a grand theatre. With unique stories, brand new music, influences from world cultures and a few classic moments, he and his company explore the history of abilities and opportunities, visit an ostrich farm, return to a laboratory a hundred years ago and ponder table setting as a discipline.

ONTWERP | DESIGN Lindi Heila Smit
It was possibly the most unlikely love affair of all time. She was a notorious woman, the daring, cigarette-smoking French novelist Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin, who wrote under the pseudonym George Sand. He was the sensitive and tormented but brilliant pianist Frédéric Chopin. This small masterpiece portrays their tempestuous relationship through their own words and music – two artists who passionately loved and tormented each other, but also created sublime works of art.

Omwentelinge, ’n papierspel

Ondersteun deur | Supported by Het Jan Marais Nationale Fonds
MET | WITH Koos Kombuis & Jana Cilliers
The word omwentelinge comes from the Latin circumvolvo which means “circling movements or patterns”. Spiralling inwards, Koos and Jana contemplate what to write and what to read. And where does listening begin? They each create their own realities through words as outlines, coloured in by Koos’ unique musical expressions. Circumvolvo is a celebration of these inner fields where the artists’ patterns and processes meet. An interplay of papered notes between two creative wanderers.

Zanne Stapelberg stars in this highly theatrical, moving and engaging cabaret featuring musical theatre songs that have their own stories to tell.
