A dramatic journey through the inner world of one of South Africa’s most complex and tragic literary figures. This cabaret is set against the backdrop of a turbulent period in Afrikaner and South African history. Marais, an unlikely Afrikaner hero, does not fit neatly into the box of the traditional icon – and therein lies his significance. The production follows Eugène’s metamorphosis from charming young journalist and charismatic student who rubbed shoulders with Chamberlain in London, to the worn-out, shy man of his later years.

In this latest production, Nataniël dissects the value and wounds of impressions – those moments that linger for a lifetime and quietly shape who we become. The star in the eye, the storm in the heart, sometimes on the tip of the tongue, sometimes deeply buried – every impression determines every step. Nataniël shares memories, marvels and madness. From jazz to pop to the baroque sounds of Georg Friedrich Händel, Nataniël showcases his wide musical repertoire alongside a new collection of stories. He shares the stage with Steinway Artist Charl du Plessis, as well as a string quartet featuring four of Cape Town’s finest musicians. Anna Maria della Pietà was Venisië se wonderkind.
Anna Maria della Pietà was Venician prodigy. By the age of eight she was already a violinist and composer, and at twelve she became the youngest concertmaster of the renowned orchestra of the Ospedale della Pietà. A foundling – the child of a prostitute – she was small enough to be passed through the convent’s infant gate, and strong enough to survive. Her music teacher was the brilliant, eccentric maestro Antonio Vivaldi, who dedicated 28 of his violin concertos to her – possibly because she herself composed parts of them? This intimate masterpiece of music and storytelling traces the life of Vivaldi’s most successful pupil, charting Anna Maria’s extraordinary journey from vulnerable foundling to celebrated maestra di violino and maestra di coro.

VERVAARDIGER | PRODUCER Drama Drama
The world is on fire, but the angel/oracle/demigoddess manning the universe’s customer service centre all by herself, is on sick leave with burnout. The great ear of the cosmos has had enough.
