When a student is raped and murdered at a post office in Cape Town, three student friends refuse to remain silent. As secrets surface and loyalties are tested, they are confronted with uncomfortable truths about love, justice and revenge. Ná die dood van hul enigste kind sukkel Lizzie en Franna om mekaar weer te vind. In plaas daarvan om te herstel en heel te word, maak hulle net verder kennis met hartseer, verlies en mishandeling. Franna se stryd met alkohol kos hom sy werk, terwyl Lizzie teen wil en dank, en op haar eie, die uitdagings om te kan oorleef moet aanpak. Konflik word die vonk wat ou wonde oopkrap en ’n skreiende vraag stel: Wie is ek sonder my kind en sonder my geliefde?
After the death of their only child, Lizzie and Franna struggle to find their way back to each other. Instead of healing and becoming whole, they sink deeper into sorrow, loss and abuse. Franna’s battle with alcohol costs him his job, while Lizzie is forced to face the challenges of survival on her own. Conflict becomes the spark that tears open old wounds and raises a burning question: Who am I without my child and without the person I love?

Die dag van die begrafnis word ’n dag van rekenskap wanneer die sibbe traumas en gebroke beloftes uit hul verlede trotseer, en probeer klou aan die brose hoop op heling. The Cracked House is ’n skerp besinning oor Suid-Afrika se onstabiele politieke landskap en die prys wat mens moet betaal vir skeiding, verlies en oorlewing.
Langa, Xola and Andiswa reunite after 31 years for their mother’s funeral. Because her life was marked by illness, abandonment and silence, her death stirs far more than grief for her children. What should have been a day of farewell becomes a day of reckoning as the siblings confront past traumas and broken promises, holding on to the fragile hope of healing. The Cracked House is a searing reflection of South Africa’s unstable political landscape and the human cost of separation, loss and survival.

’n Persoon wat groter van lyf is, vertel die verhaal van hul jare as kind, tiener en jong volwassene. Dié herinneringe word gekenmerk deur humor en pyn. Tussen familie wat mal is oor braai, skoolvriende en ’n aanlyn liefde, spook daar ook die seer oomblikke wanneer iemand hulle ’n ‘vark’ noem. Die spieël in die badkamer word ’n vyand, en die reis van ongemak groei tot angs en uiteindelik die donker drang om hulself skade aan te doen.
A larger bodied person tells the story of their years as a child, teenager and young adult. These memories are marked by humour and pain. Between a family that loves to braai, school friends and an online romance, there are also the hurtful moments as when someone calls them a ‘pig’. The bathroom mirror becomes an enemy and the journey from discomfort grows into anxiety and ultimately the dark urge to harm themself.
