Die 21ste Suidoosterfees vind in Kaapstad plaas vanaf 26 April tot 1 Mei 2024

Missie

Om ’n soomlose kunstefees in ras, kultuur, klas, geloof en taal, met ’n fokus op Afrikaans, vir jonk en oud daar te stel.

Visie

Om die Kaapse Afrikaanse leefwêreld in sy volle verskeidenheid te vier en te ontwikkel, en om sosiale diversiteit en nasionale eenheid in en deur Afrikaans te beklemtoon en te bevorder.

 

Aansoeke open op Woensdag 16 Augustus en sluit Vrydag 22 September om 12:00. Bevestiging van ontvangs sal jou binne 7 dae nadat aansoeke ingedien is, bereik. Indien jy na 7 dae niks van ons hoor nie, doen asb. navraag by Faren.Esau@media24.com. Aansoekers sal op Vrydag 20 Oktober in kennis gestel word of aansoeke suksesvol was.

 

Met Artscape as tuiste van die fees, is die volgende ruimtes beskikbaar:

Operahuis (1 545 sitplekke)

Teater (541 sitplekke)

Arena Teater (129 sitplekke)

Repteater (100 sitplekke)

Innovasiespasie (80 sitplekke)

Isibaya (40 sitplekke)

Zip Zap Dome (400 sitplekke)

Installasie- en visuele kuns: Voorportale en Piazza (tussen 50 en 400 staanplekke)

 

Die Suidoosterfees het beperkte tradisionele teaterspasies. Kunstenaars wat klein plekspesifieke opskietproduksies wil aanbied in ruimtes in en om Artscape, is welkom om voorstelle te maak.

Produksies met omvangryke tegniese behoeftes word aangemoedig om vir die Operahuis, Teater of Arena aansoek te doen.

 

Die Suidoosterfees se program word soos volg saamgestel:

Bestaande werk – Produksies wat feesgereed is

Nuwe werk – Debuutproduksies

Ontwikkelingsinisiatiewe – Projekte met ’n sterk fokus op ontwikkeling, asook geleenthede vir gevestigde en opkomende kunstenaars om saam te werk

Opskietproduksies – Kort, eksperimentele werke wat in enige spasie kan plaasvind

Visuele kunsuitstalling – binne die ruimtebeperkinge

Jeugteater – Produksies van studente en pas afgestudeerde kunstenaars


’n Onafhanklike paneel sal aansoeke evalueer. Ongelukkig is daar bepaalde uitdagings wat in ag geneem moet word en kan net ’n sekere aantal produksies op die program ingesluit word. Dit is geensins ’n refleksie op produksies wat nie gekeur word nie.

Die uitdagings sluit in:

Beperkte aantal venues

Begroting

Tegniese behoeftes

Balans in die feesprogam

 

Een van vier tipe kontrakte word met aansoekers gesluit:

Fooiproduksie: Suidoosterfees bied ’n fooi aan vir die produksie.

Loketproduksie: Die produksie se inkomste berus 100% op kaartjieverkope.

Elke bietjie help: Die fees verskaf saadgeld vir die produksie en verder maak die produksie staat op kaartjieverkope.

Ko-produksie: ’n Produksie waar verskeie vennote betrokke is en die kostes dra.

Suidoosterfees applications

The 21st Suidoosterfees will be held in Cape Town from 26 April to 1 May 2024.

Mission

To establish a festival that is seamless regarding race, culture, religion and language, with the emphasis on Afrikaans, for people of all ages.

Vision

To celebrate and develop the Afrikaans living environment in the Cape in all its diversity, and to promote and emphasise social inclusivity and national unity in and through Afrikaans.

 

Applications open on Wednesday 16 August and close on Friday 22 September at 12:00. Acknowledgement of receipt will reach you within 7 days after submissions. If you haven’t heard from us after 7 days, please enquire at Faren.Esau@media24.com. Applicants will be informed whether submissions were successful on Friday 20 October.

 

With Artscape as our festival hub, the following venues are available:

Opera House (1 545 seats)

Theatre (541 seats)

Arena Theatre (129 seats)

Rep Theatre (100 seats)

Innovation Lounge (80 seats)

Isibaya (40 seats)

Zip Zap Dome (400 seats)

Installations and visual art: Foyers and Piazza (room for between 50 and 400 people standing)

 

Suidoosterfees has limited traditional theatre spaces. Artists who would like to stage small site-specific pop-up shows in and around Artscape, are welcome to make suggestions.

Productions with extensive technical requirements are encouraged to apply for the Opera House, Theatre or Arena.

 

The Suidoosterfees programme includes the following:

Existing work – Productions ready to be staged at the festival

New work – Debut productions

Development initiatives – Projects with a primary focus on development, as well as events where established and emerging artists can collaborate

Pop-up shows – Short, experimental works that can be staged anywhere

Visual art exhibition – in spaces available

Youth theatre – Productions of students or recently graduated artists


Applications will be evaluated by an independent panel. Unfortunately, certain constraints must be kept in consideration and only a specific number of productions can be included on the programme. If applications are unsuccessful, it is in no way a reflection on the quality of the production.

The following types of contracts are offered to successful applicants:

Fee production: Suidoosterfees offers a fee for the production.

Box office production: The production earns 100% of ticket sales.

Every little bit helps: The festival provides seed money to the production and the production earns income from ticket sales.

Coproduction: A production where various partners are involved to share production costs.
