A series of staged readings of new plays by emerging playwrights, including the festival’s NATi Rising Stars, to professional experts in the industry. Advice is provided and networking opportunities are explored.
How it works: Emerging playwrights are invited to present new theatre texts, with actors reading the texts, to industry professionals and to test it to audiences.

Die 2025-program is in November by Artscape aangebied en het bestaan uit ses teksvoorlesings, ’n vollengte verhoogproduksie en ’n radiodrama.
Die teksvoorlesings het ’n verskeidenheid temas en vorme van vertelkuns ten toon gestel. Africa 2051 deur Andza Magagula het gehore na ’n futuristiese Afrika geneem waar oorlog, genesing en eenheid sentraal staan. Rita Swanepoel se Begrafniskos het ’n donker komiese blik gewerp op familieverhoudings, verlies en vergifnis. Isilingo deur Adadume Ngxanki het die spanning tussen spirituele roeping en familieverpligtinge ondersoek, terwyl Baydu Adams se Uncomfortable Truths moeilike gesprekke oor identiteit, bevoorregting en versoening in Kaapstad aangespreek het. Nosiphiwo Ndabeni se The Untold het die traumatiese gevolge van seksuele geweld en die soeke na geregtigheid verken, en Elton Louw se Die droomkraan het ’n poëtiese verhaal van hoop, verlies en onwaarskynlike vriendskap na gehore gebring.
’n Hoogtepunt van die program was die aanbieding van die vollengte produksie Vannie wal, Af deur Mikyall Harris, onder regie van Amelda Brand. Die drama, wat tydens Suidoosterfees 2025 op die NATi Jong Sterre-program gedebuteer het, ondersoek liefde, identiteit en aanvaarding deur die verhaal van twee studente wie se verhouding deur geheime en persoonlike uitdagings getoets word.
Die radiodrama Die heeltyd lyk alles netjies deur Jean-Pierre Lesch, is deur Denzil Thorne geregisseer. Die drama, losweg gebaseer op Adam Small se gedig “Oppie Parara”, ondersoek die lewens van uiteenlopende karakters op Kaapstad se Parade en bied ’n genuanseerde blik op die stad se sosiale dinamika, menslike verhoudings en stille drome. Dit is as gratis inhoud aan plaaslike gemeenskapsradiostasies aangebied om uit te saai, wat die projek se bereik verder uitbrei en nuwe gehore toegang gee tot oorspronklike Suid-Afrikaanse stories.
The 2025 programme was presented at Artscape in November and comprised six script readings, a full-length stage production and a radio drama.
The script readings showcased a diverse range of themes and storytelling forms. Africa 2051 by Andza Magagula transported audiences to a futuristic Africa where war, healing and unity take centre stage. Rita Swanepoel’s Begrafniskos offered a darkly comic exploration of family relationships, loss and forgiveness. Isilingo by Adadume Ngxanki examined the tension between spiritual calling and family responsibility, while Baydu Adams’s Uncomfortable Truths confronted difficult conversations about identity, privilege and reconciliation in Cape Town. Nosiphiwo Ndabeni’s The Untold explored the traumatic impact of sexual violence and the search for justice, and Elton Louw’s Die droomkraan presented a poetic story of hope, loss and unlikely friendship.
A highlight of the programme was the presentation of the full-length production Vannie wal, Af by Mikyall Harris, directed by Amelda Brand. The drama, which premiered at the 2025 Suidoosterfees as part of the NATi Rising Stars programme, explores love, identity and acceptance through the story of two students whose relationship is tested by secrets and personal challenges.
The radio drama Die heeltyd lyk alles netjies by Jean-Pierre Lesch was directed by Denzil Thorne. Loosely based on Adam Small’s poem Oppie Parara, the drama explores the lives of a diverse group of characters on Cape Town’s Parade, offering a nuanced portrayal of the city’s social dynamics, human relationships and quiet aspirations. It was made available free of charge to local community radio stations for broadcast, extending the project’s reach and providing new audiences with access to original South African stories.
