Die Suidoosterfees het in 2025 ’n belangrike belegging in ontluikende teaterpraktisyns gemaak deur drie gratis opleidingsgeleenthede aan te bied – moontlik gemaak deur die ruim ondersteuning van die Festival Enterprise Catalyst (FEC), die Jobs Fund en Artscape. Hierdie werkswinkels vorm deel van die fees se verbintenis om die kunste toeganklik te maak, talent te ontwikkel en werksgeleenthede in die kreatiewe sektor te stimuleer.
In 2025 het drie kundiges uit die bedryf – die ontslape Alfred Rietmann, Carin Bester en Qondiswa James, en Marié Vogts –kennis en praktiese vaardighede met deelnemers gedeel. Die entoesiasme en groei van die nuweling-praktisyns is inspirerend om te aanskou, en ons is trots om die stories, ervarings en stemme van deelnemers hier te deel.
In 2025 the Suidoosterfees made an important investment in emerging theatre practitioners by offering three free training opportunities – made possible through the generous support of the Festival Enterprise Catalyst (FEC), the Jobs Fund and Artscape. These workshops form part of the festival’s commitment to making the arts accessible, developing talent and stimulating job opportunities in the creative sector.
In 2025 three experienced industry practitioners – the late Alfred Rietmann, Carin Bester and Qondiswa James, and Marié Vogts – shared knowledge and practical skills with participants. The enthusiasm and growth of the newcomers are inspiring to witness and we are proud to share their stories, experiences and voices here.
Verhoogbestuur-opleiding met Alfred Rietmann: 10–11 Junie 2025
Die opleidingsreeks het afgeskop met ’n intensiewe tweedag-werksessie in verhoogbestuur onder leiding van die geliefde en gerespekteerde verhoogbestuurder Alfred Rietmann. Hierdie sessie sou een van sy laaste bydraes tot die bedryf wees; Alfred is op 5 November 2025 oorlede.
Deelnemers het geleer hoe om produksies stiptelik en professioneel te bestuur – van repetisies en teaterprotokolle tot spanwerk agter die skerms. Vir baie het die werkswinkel nie net nuwe vaardighede ontsluit nie, maar ook die selfvertroue gegee om die volgende tree in die teaterbedryf te neem.
Alfred se passie en toewyding leef voort in elkeen wat hy opgelei het.
Stage Management Training with Alfred Rietmann: 10–11 June 2025
The training series opened with an intensive two-day session in stage management led by the much-loved and respected stage manager Alfred Rietmann. This session would be one of his last contributions to the industry; Alfred passed away on 5 November 2025.
Participants learned how to manage productions with precision and professionalism – from rehearsals and theatre protocols to teamwork behind the scenes. For many the workshop unlocked new skills and offered the confidence to take the next step in their theatre careers.
Alfred’s passion and dedication live on in everyone he trained.
Optreekuns-werkswinkel met Carin Bester en Qondiswa James: 23–24 Julie 2025
In Julie het die fees ’n tweeledige werkswinkel oor optreekuns aangebied deur twee baanbrekers in die bedryf, Carin Bester en Qondiswa James.
Kursusgangers het die ryk geskiedenis en uiteenlopende stylbenaderings van optreekuns verken. Teorie en praktyk het versmelt in oefeninge wat deelnemers aangemoedig het om hul eie stem, liggaam en verbeelding as artistieke instrumente te ontdek. Die groep se terugvoer was entoesiasties, en vele het hierdie werkswinkel as ’n transformerende kreatiewe ervaring beskryf.
Performance Art Workshop with Carin Bester and Qondiswa James: 23–24 July 2025
In July the festival presented a two-part workshop on performance art led by two trailblazers in the field, Carin Bester and Qondiswa James.
Participants explored the rich history and varied stylistic approaches within performance art. Theory and practice blended through exercises that encouraged participants to discover their own voice, body and imagination as artistic tools. Feedback from the group was enthusiastic and many described the workshop as a transformative creative experience.
Opleiding in Produksiebestuur met Marié Vogts: 25–26 November 2025
Die jaar het afgesluit met ’n praktiese, insiggewende kursus in produksiebestuur, aangebied deur die ervare bedryfsleier Marié Vogts.
Deelnemers het waardevolle kennis opgedoen oor beplanning, begroting, skedulering, logistiek en die fyn balans tussen kreatiewe visie en praktiese uitvoering. Hierdie werkswinkel het ’n omvattende blik gebied op die wêreld van teaterbestuur — ’n onmisbare vaardigheidstel vir iemand wat professioneel in die bedryf wil groei.
Production Management Training with Marié Vogts: 25–26 November 2025
The year concluded with a practical and insightful course in production management presented by experienced industry leader Marié Vogts.
Participants gained valuable knowledge about planning, budgeting, scheduling, logistics and the delicate balance between creative vision and practical execution. This workshop offered a comprehensive view of the world of theatre management – an essential skill set for anyone aiming to grow professionally in the industry.
Nuwe moontlikhede en geleenthede vir kunstenaars
Hierdie drie werkswinkels lewer ’n kosbare bydrae om ontluikende talent te laat gedy, hulle met nuwe idees en vaardighede te laat eksperimenteer, en netwerke vir kunstenaars uit te brei. Die Suidoosterfees is trots daarop om hierdie geleenthede danksy die ondersteuning van die FEC, die Jobs Fund en Artscape te kon aanbied.
