Heterogene Homo sapiens

Kunstenaar: Gift Wamala
Venue: Portale, Artscape-teaterkompleks

This series of portraits by 17-year old Gift Wamala, a refugee from Uganda, comments on the versatility of identity: as human beings we have physical traits, but there are so many more aspects that contribute to our whole selves. The Shweshwe motif in her work serves as an ode to the world she now calls home: a community where Xhosa is the dominant language. The precision and integrity of Gift’s work is astounding.
