Jeug- jazzreeks

Youth Jazz Series

The Artscape Youth Jazz Festival was launched in 2003. The project has grown extensively over the years to accommodate the enormous interest and exceptional talent of young jazz musicians. As it continues to evolve it is now known as the Youth Jazz Series.
This project, of which the Suidoosterfees became a partner a few years ago, includes Masterclass programmes where young musicians learn from those experienced in the industry. They then take to the stage over three days, performing in the All Star Alumni Jazz Concert. Youth Jazz soloists showcase their talent in the concert Youth Jazz Soloists after being mentored by the alumni artists, and also during the School Jazz Bands show.
The Youth Jazz Series was established to ensure the skills transfer from our recognised, professional jazz musicians to young talented ones. Its primary objective remains to ensure the longevity of this genre.
In 2024, 11 young musicians, including those who acquired jazz skills by ear, trumpeted their prowess in vocals, guitar, piano, saxophones and drums. Young musicians from schools such as South Peninsula, Settlers High, Alexander Sinton and Belhar High performed at the festival.
